Facebook advertising - how to start and what it costs in 2026

Facebook advertising remains one of the cheapest ways to reach new customers. Many companies waste the budget on a poorly configured campaign, stop after a month and decide that "Facebook does not work," although the platform can work extremely well with the right setup, creative and patience.

This guide covers the first campaign, a sensible starting budget and the mistakes that repeatedly cost Polish companies money.

Why advertise on Facebook?

Facebook and Instagram ads are managed from the same place, and together the platforms have over 25 million active users in Poland. That is over half the population, so your customers are already there. The job is to find them.

Facebook Ads differs from other advertising channels in four useful ways:

  • Precise targeting - adverts can reach people by age, location, interests, purchasing behaviour and even visits to your website
  • A low entry cost - the minimum budget is PLN 5 a day, while practical campaigns start around PLN 30-50
  • Visual formats - photographs, video, carousels and Stories can grab attention in a way that a text Google ad cannot
  • Remarketing - you can reach people who visited your website and left before buying

One important distinction

Facebook Ads and the "Boost post" button are different products, since boosting is a simplified option with limited control and usually weaker results. Proper campaigns belong in Ads Manager within Meta Business Suite, where you control the targeting, budget and optimisation.

How to start, step by step

Prepare the foundations before spending the first zloty. Missing any one of them can make the campaign needlessly expensive.

1

Install the Facebook Pixel on your website

The Pixel is a small piece of code that records what visitors do. Without it, you cannot attribute enquiries or run remarketing. If the current site is weak at converting traffic, start with the website itself.

2

Create an advertising account in Meta Business Suite

Go to business.facebook.com and set up the company account. Advertising from a personal account removes access to useful controls and analytics.

3

Define the campaign objective

Facebook offers traffic, leads, conversions and reach, among other goals. "Leads" or "Traffic" works for many service businesses. Choose "Reach" when visibility is the goal.

4

Set the audience

Begin with a focused group. An audience of 50,000 relevant people can outperform one containing 2 million random users. Filter by location, age and interests related to the sector.

5

Prepare the creative

Build at least 3-4 ad variants with different images and copy. Facebook can then test them and move budget towards the strongest version.

How much does Facebook advertising cost?

You control the spend, but the campaign needs enough data to produce a useful result. These are indicative costs for the Polish market in 2026:

Micro test budget:

PLN 500-1,000/month. Enough to test 2-3 audiences and several creative variants. Expect useful insight first and a limited volume of leads.

Small starting budget:

PLN 1,000-3,000/month. A realistic level for a local service company, producing 5-20 enquiries a month depending on the sector and offer.

Medium growth budget:

PLN 3,000-8,000/month. Scale the campaigns that work, add remarketing and lookalike audiences, and test fresh formats. Around 20-60 leads a month.

Large aggressive budget:

PLN 8,000+/month. Several campaigns run in parallel for a company that already knows Facebook works and wants greater volume.

How much does a click cost?

Average CPC in Poland is PLN 0.50-2.00. Competitive sectors such as property and finance may pay PLN 2-4 per click, while local services, hospitality and tourism can fall below PLN 1. A form submission or phone lead typically costs PLN 15-80.

Common mistakes that burn through the budget

Years of running client campaigns reveal the same problems again and again:

  • An audience that is too broad - advertising to "all women aged 18-65 in Poland" wastes money. A focused audience tends to bring cheaper clicks and stronger conversion.
  • One ad variant - Facebook needs at least 3-4 creatives to test and optimise. A single advert gives the system nowhere to move.
  • No Pixel on the website - without conversion tracking, you cannot tell what the campaign produced.
  • A weak landing page - even an excellent advert will fail when the destination takes 5 seconds to load and has no clear action. Website UX directly affects advertising conversion.
  • Stopping too quickly - Facebook's algorithm needs 3-7 days to learn. Switching a campaign off after 2 days cuts that process short.
  • Boosting posts instead of building campaigns - the "Boost" button offers only a fraction of the controls available in Ads Manager.
"Poorly configured Facebook ads are expensive, and a larger budget cannot replace strategy or patience."

Facebook Ads and your website

After the click, the landing experience carries the campaign. A carefully configured advert still loses money when the website is slow, confusing or missing a contact form.

A website supporting paid advertising needs:

  • Loading below 3 seconds - according to Google performance guidance, each extra second can reduce conversion by 20%
  • A clear call to action - a phone number, form or "Order" button
  • A message matching the advert - if the creative promises a "20% discount", the page must confirm it
  • A polished mobile experience - phones account for 85% of Facebook traffic

If the current website falls short, invest in a site built for conversion before committing a large advertising budget.

Should you ask an agency to manage the campaigns?

You can manage Facebook advertising yourself if you can set aside time to learn and optimise it every day, while an agency typically charges PLN 1,500-4,000 a month on top of the media budget.

An agency makes sense when:

Self-management may suit you when:

  • the monthly budget stays below PLN 1,000
  • the business is local and has a clearly defined audience
  • you can spend 2-3 hours each week learning and optimising

Summary

Facebook advertising needs preparation. Install the Pixel, build a strong destination page, begin with focused targeting and give the algorithm enough time to learn. 3 days is too early to demand a miracle, and boosted posts provide a poor substitute for a properly configured campaign.

A sensible minimum budget is PLN 1,000 a month. That can produce 5-20 enquiries for a local company when the campaign is set up well and the website is designed for conversion.

Common questions

How much does Facebook advertising cost?
The minimum daily budget is PLN 5, but meaningful results usually begin around PLN 30-50 a day, or PLN 900-1,500 a month. An average click in Poland costs PLN 0.50-2.00, while one lead costs PLN 15-80 depending on the sector.
Does Facebook advertising work for small businesses?
Yes, and local businesses can be especially effective. A small company can target people within 15 km of its premises. A PLN 1,000 monthly budget can be enough to generate genuine enquiries.
How long does it take to see results from Facebook advertising?
Clicks and website traffic appear within 24-48 hours. Optimising a campaign for conversions takes 2-4 weeks because Facebook's algorithm needs enough data to learn who should see the advert.
Do I need a large Facebook following for ads to work?
Paid Facebook advertising works independently of your follower count. Its purpose is to reach people who do not know the company yet. A page with 50 followers can still generate hundreds of clicks a day.
Facebook Ads or Google Ads, which is better?
The goal decides. Facebook Ads is strong at building awareness and creating demand among people who have yet to search for the product. Google Ads works well when people are already seeking a solution. Many companies get the best result by using both channels together.
